My name is Amanda Hernandez, I’m 20 years old and I live in Highland California with my parents and younger brother. I’m currently a student at San Bernardino Valley College and I have taken elective classes in digital photography, video editing and video production. Since taking these classes I have been even more motivated to pursue my dreams. I’m one who loves to be creative and just being myself. I’m someone who is very determined and outgoing, I’m what a lot of people call a big dreamer and I have a dream career that many people have looked at me funny and have been negative about telling me to get a “realistic career”, but I don’t let the negative people stop me. Thankfully though I do have the full support from my parents and that they believe in me and hope to see me succeed at my dream.
Describe your Dream Job
When I think of my dream job I dream of either becoming a still photographer or a Cinematographer. I dream of working for big motion picture companies, television sets or even music video sets. I see myself taking my creativity and creating different moods and feelings with my work whether it’s taking a still photo or recording video. I want to feel part of something great in the making, knowing millions of people around the world could enjoy my work, I dream of being able to work alongside inspiring people and just being able to network and enjoy my job. I want to be able to look at something and be proud of work.
What obstacles have you faced?
The obstacles I have faced while trying to pursue this dream is not really knowing how to get to where I want to be. I constantly do my research trying to figure out what type of schooling and skills I need, but for one the information can be overwhelming and for two I really don't know what schools are legit to get me where I want to be. I've even tried asking my professors hoping they can guide me into the right direction and constantly getting the same answer that they don't know or telling me that it’s not a realistic goal in life. I always hear how it’s not what you know but who you know in the business, it can be discouraging but I refuse to let that stop me. I know I need some guidance and help to reach my dream career.
Why do you feel you have the passion and drive to succeed?
I feel I have the passion and drive to succeed because I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get to my dream. I'm willing to learn and take whatever help and guidance I can get. I'm a determined person who what’s to show people what I have to offer. I want to show my brother that you can do anything if you just put your mind to it and don't let the negative bring you down. I have the passion and drive to do what it takes I'm willing to take whatever help is given to me to help me get to my goal. I seriously dream and just think of one day going to work and knowing I'm doing something I enjoy. I look for the guidance and have yet to find it and just hunger for it to come. I want to prove all the family and friends who have been negative about my dream wrong that it's possible to get where you want as long as you keep going and pushing and asking and taking in what people have taught me.
